As a major manufacturer of wireless and intercom products, it is important we keep our customers informed of any changes in the industry that may affect the use of our systems. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently provided a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding revisions to the Rules Authorizing the Operation of Low Power Auxiliary Stations in the 698-806 MHz spectrum. The revisions include the proposed (and probable) ban on the sale of wireless intercom and wireless microphone products above 698 MHz to coincide with the DTV (Digital Television) transition that will take effect on February 17, 2009.

A new Electro-Voice XLD very compact line-array loudspeaker system has opened up a new lease on life at Crisler Arena, a 13,500 seat arena at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The state-of-the-art system was designed and installed by TeL Systems (Ann Arbor, MI), and features all DSP control via EV’s NetMax platform with FIR-Drive (utilizing FIR filters).

At the beginning of November, Dutch superstar Jan Smit gave three concerts in the Ahoy events complex, Rotterdam. During the sold-out shows in the 10,000-seater arena, alongside 96 Electro-Voice boxes, the new EV N8000-1500 loudspeaker controller with FIR Drive was used for the first time. It’s a setup that points the way forward, as sound experts were quick to attest.

Performance Audio of Salt Lake City recently installed a new Electro-Voice XLC sound system at Energy Solutions Arena. The 20,500 seat arena is home to the NBA’s Utah Jazz, and is the region’s major concert venue—Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson were the first to perform alongside the new system.

On September 28th, the “Celebrity Solstice”—the largest cruise liner ever built in Germany—left the Meyer-Werft shipyard in Papenburg amid enormous media interest. FUNA Nachrichtentechnik of Emden installed equipment including hundreds of Electro-Voice speakers and four networked ProMatrix (known as ProAnnounce in the U.S.) 4000 systems from Dynacord aboard the new craft.

The Brighton Centre, the south coast of England’s premier conference venue, has revitalized its long-serving Electro-Voice PA system by replacing all its existing amplifiers with Electro-Voice’s latest DSP-controlled Precision Series P1200RL amplifiers, running IRIS-Net remote control and system supervision software.
