Keri Noble - Biography:

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Noble grew up in song-rich Detroit. Like many great singers who hail from Detroit, Noble developed her vocal talents in a church choir, and wasn’t exposed to pop or rock music until high school. It was then that her friends got her listening to Detroit radio stations spinning urban, R&B and hip hop hits. A few years later, a friend at college introduced her to the music of Joni Mitchell.

It was Mitchell’s classic album “Blue“ that inspired Noble to ponder her musical future. “I’d never heard of Joni Mitchell,“ she says. “I thought, does, anyone know who this woman is?“ Soon Noble realised that, like Mitchell, she could find an outlet in music to express herself and her emotions. As the songs begin to flow, Noble quit college and set out to pursue a musical career. “I waited tables and kept writing,“ she says. At one point, people who heard me playing at home encouraged me to play ay the local coffeehouse.“

That period proved to be crucial for Keri’s development as a performer. She got experience playing in front of people as well as honing her songwriting skills. Most importantly, she says, life began to make sense. She was following her passion. “I was determined to express myself,“ she says. “I played three times a week, mostly in Detroit coffeehouses that sat about 80 people. It was just me, my keyboard and a portable sound system.

Noble began to garner attention, which resulted in three Detroit Music Award nominations. However, she relocated to Minneapolis after Narada Recording Artist Billy McLaughlin offered her a showcase there. Noble loved the city for its artistic environment. She told one music journalist: “When I’m in Minneapolis, I can just write and have a regular life.“

Through McLaughlin, Noble met artist/producer Jeff Arundel who helped her to demo some of her songs. Through Arundel, she also hooked up with management and booking agencies, which led to performances for Manhattan general managers Mardin and Ian Ralfini. They liked what they heard. “I was impressed immediately with Keri as a writer and performer,“ says Mardin. “She truly writes songs from the heart, and she sings them with passion and conviction.“

With Arundel producing, Noble recorded “Fearless“ in Minneapolis and New York. Supported by a core band in addition to strings on some tunes, the CD captures the singer-songwriter performing live in the studio. As for the music itself, Noble says, “The songs do not tackle huge issues. I’m not trying to take anything or anyone on. I’m just trying to express my life experiences through my writing.“
