Telex Dispatch provides a streamlined solution for busy regional airport

Asheville Regional Airport is a busy facility that services 19 counties in Western North Carolina. The Department of Public Safety professionals stationed at the airport use Telex Dispatch equipment to coordinate Police, Fire, and EMS first responder communications, ensuring the safety of tenants, users, and, employees.
“One of the reasons we selected the Telex solution was its scale-ability,“ says Jimmy Brissie of the Asheville Regional Airport Department of Public Safety. “It allows us to start off small and grow as needed. We are currently using the Telex C-Soft software suite (one position), the Network Recorder, and two IP-223 network adapters. The IP-223s allow us to communicate on a VHF radio for our company operations, a UHF radio for talking to airlines and tenants, and two aircraft-band radios that allow us to talk to the control tower or aircraft. We have all lines of communication covered with a minimal amount of hardware, all of which is easy and intuitive to use.“
When selecting a system, the primary prerequisite was maximum interoperability in a user-friendly package, as Brissie explains: “We wanted to achieve maximum flexibility without an excess of hardware. Compared to a hardware-based piece of equipment, the Telex solution offers a lot more bang for the buck. It was also important the equipment be easy to use, and the custom-configured graphic user interface is so intuitive, literally “what you see is what you get’. We really liked that aspect-everything we need and nothing we don’t. We can customize the GUI to each user’s needs. Now, with the touch of a button on the monitor screen, our company radios can talk to the control tower, colleagues, or tenants on any part of the campus, thanks to the cross-patch capability. We have plans of adding a couple more bands of communications with 800 MHz, adding the capability of communicating with mutual aid resources. Every aspect of this system is easy to use, helping us concentrate on our communications rather than on the hardware itself.
