EV’ & Dynacord’ Deliver at 50 Cent Show, Florida International University

May 25th, 2005

The rig used to provide maximum SPL, coverage and the all-important low-end for the event? A Dyancord® Cobra™ system from Hallandale, Florida-based Everlast Productions (www.everlastproductions.com), coupled with Midas mixing consoles, Klark Teknik signal processing and EV mics and monitors powered by EV P-RL™ series remote-controlled DSP amplifiers. Everlast’s Gus Fuentes ran FOH at the show. He described this latest strike for the Cobra:

“We’re pretty much the exclusive sound company for FIU as a result of our Cobra rig. It sounds fantastic flown for large concert events like this, and it performs equally well ground-stacked at graduation ceremonies. We simply add boxes and adjust the DSP presets as necessary. It allows for “plug in and play’ performance across a wider range of applications than any other rig I know of. The addition of the P-RL amps also saves time whilst offering greater control, load monitoring and all-round performance for the EV Xw-15™ monitors. For the 50 Cent show, we flew arrays of 5 Cobra-4 Top™ boxes and 4 Cobra-4 Far™ per side, with 24 PWH™ subs ground-stacked across the front of the stage. We flew both arrays in well under an hour. The Cobra proves its versatility time after time. It’s really turned out to be a workhorse rig for us, especially when it comes to pumping out the low end at rap shows like this, and all with plenty of projection on the vocals.“

Fuentes added: “This was a slightly downsized version of a rig we used for a Method Man and Redman show here at FIU last November. Their people loved the rig, and 50 Cent and his management were also impressed by the high-output and sound quality - especially from a system with such a small footprint. A lot of questions were asked before the shows - people get thrown off by the “column’ look, and don’t expect something so streamlined to be able to deliver the SPL and coverage they need. The Cobra answers all those questions as soon as the system is switched on. Some people may still not be familiar with the Dynacord name on this side of the Atlantic, but as soon as they hear the system - and the fact it’s made in Germany with EV components - they don’t forget it.“

Along with the “Friendly Weapon“ Cobra System, Everlast opted to switch out their mics with the new EV RE410 cardioid condenser head for the RE1 wireless handheld unit. Fuentes is impressed: “We used 6 channels of EV RE1 wireless, with the new RE410 capsule. This is a great-sounding mic, with excellent feedback rejection and hot highs that cut through the bass-heavy mix nicely. We already use the RE510 supercardioid - now we have a more suitable option for the higher-gain stage environment. The RE1, as usual, is a workhorse wireless - easy to use, fast to find a clean channel, and built to last. We use those with the APD4+ antenna distribution systems, and never have any problems. Add in the Midas Legend consoles and KT processing we use, and we feel we’re offering our clients the very best rig available at this size, from input to output.“
