System Snapshot: Paprika Restaurant and Lounge, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad

January 21st, 2013

The original Paprika Restaurant and Lounge featured Electro-Voice EVID 4.2 and EVID 12.1 loudspeakers. While the owners loved the sound quality, they wanted more. So, when planning to open the doors of the all new, remodeled Paprika, owners Gustavo Molina and Dr. Gerard Farfan contacted Streamline Systems for a system which, while simple and cost-effective, would pack a punch and provide higher volume levels when the lounge transforms into a small nightclub. Streamline was contracted to design, supply, and install a high quality sound, lighting, and video system for the new venue.

After the first meeting with the lounge owners, Michael Pereira, director of Streamline Systems, was clear on the objective and knew exactly where to look. "The EV ZX1i's small footprint and clean sound was a perfect fit for the venue's needs," he says. "The challenge was to find subwoofers small enough to fit into the decor while keeping up with the ZX1i boxes. As luck would have it, EV had just released the all-new self-powered ZXA1-Sub. The small footprint and specs were a perfect match for the space."

Installation was a breeze using QuickSAM mounting brackets, and spec'ing the same loudspeaker models for both indoors and out was an added convenience. Then the EV Q66 amplifiers selected to power the sound were terminated and it was time to press play. Even before system tuning, the venue owners were smiling and dancing to the music while completing the installation of their stunning new decor.

The new Paprika Restaurant and Lounge opened at 15 Rust St, St Clair, Port-of-Spain on December 5, 2012. Restaurant manager Jesus Ramirez says Paprika is a “unique place for people to have an experience like no other.” By design, Paprika gives patrons a chance “to feel out of Trinidad while in Trinidad.”
