Quality Sound Completes Audio System Renovation at Century Assembly Church

September 12th, 2005

The system, designed by House of Worship A/V specialist Gary Roda, features a true Left/Center/Right loudspeaker array including two Electro-Voice Xi-1123A/106F loudspeakers operating in tripole mode, taking advantage of Electro-Voice’s VBS (Vertical Beam Steering) technology to increase gain-before-feedback on the platform. The two Xi boxes flank two centrally flown QRx218S dual-18“ subwoofers, providing 100-degrees of coverage on either side of the aisle below. The Left/Right system includes two cross-panned pairs of Electro-Voice QRx153/75 three-way loudspeakers that work with the centrally flown QRx218S dual-18“ subwoofers. This part of the system was specified primarily for music reinforcement, to ensure a full stereo image throughout the Sanctuary to compliment the high level of vocal sensitivity provided by the Xi boxes.

Four Electro-Voice FRi+122/94 two-way loudspeakers form the delay ring for coverage of the balcony, and two FRi-122/64’s are flown above the stage for choir wash monitoring. The entire sound system is powered by the latest Electro-Voice Contractor Precision Series (CPS) amplifiers.

Gary Roda commented: “This new system will better accommodate the Church’s more elaborate production requirements; times have changed, and a large House of Worship PA needs to do more than simply provide good vocal reproduction. Working with Telex/EV helps us design application-specific solutions with the right balance of professional performance and user-friendliness, to help a growing Church’s production ambitions become a reality.“

“This installation characterizes a real team effort between contractor, manufacturer and client,“ Roda added. “The project evolved over the last two years, and EV were behind us every step of the way to assist in designing the best system possible. The attention to detail EV’s tech support team provide is exceptional, from the numerous EASE models we went through to thoroughly explore product, pricing and performance options, to the invaluable experience and hands-on know-how of some of the most respected names in the pro audio business. Building upon my original design concept, we worked closely with EV’s Jim Long, Robert Deyarmond and Stu Schatz to develop a system design that couldn’t be more precisely suited to the Church’s needs. Stu even helped us program some third party DSP equipment I specified, to help ensure the system as a whole sounded optimal. The combination of technical support, EV’s wide range of problem-solving product options, and a willingness to spend time “above and beyond’ to get the job done meant that no stone was left unturned, and we expect equally impressive results with phase three of the renovation.“

Phase One of the project (completed in 2004) addressed the Church’s multipurpose gym, and includes Electro-Voice Sx500 and Sx300 loudspeakers, CPS series amplifiers, and a portable system including Electro-Voice ZX5s, Eliminator Subs and Force monitors, all mated using custom Whirlwind MASS disconnect panels and snakes.

Phase Three of the project (scheduled for 2006) will include renovation of the stage platform and the installation of all new floor pockets, providing 72 house inputs, Hear Back and Video signals over CAT5, and Telex wired and wireless intercom system interconnectivity.
