State of the Art Library Powered by EV & Dynacord

November 22nd, 2005

John McCauley from Noisebox Entertainment Systems was approached in 2003 to submit a bid for the design and installation of the audio and lighting equipment. The bid was successful and McCauley has been working with Blackwood Council and their project managers at ground level for the last two years.

McCauley contacted Bryan Davidson, National Contracting Manager, APAC Audio Pty Ltd to assist in the audio design of the multi-purpose function room. Located on the first floor of the library, the room was designed to be used even when the library is closed. The seating capacity is 200 seminar style, 180 banquet style and approximately 400 people live band style.

Davidson reviewed the plans and, after deciphering the intended uses for the room, came up with Dynacord Madras M15 powered speaker systems as a solution. “John came up with a very innovative way to lower them from the ceiling in a specially designed frame, which was quite an engineering feat,“ Davidson remarked.

Various RE and N/DYM series wired and wireless microphone solutions from Electro-Voice are handling the other end of the signal chain. Wireless mics are via EV’s RE2 system. The main presentation mic is a PolarChoice PC-18. SxA100+ powered speakers are also on hand as a flexible solution for all manner of performance and presentation applications.

“What we have provided is a high performance sound reinforcement and conference venue system that will cater for a school choir, a professional Latino dance band, a training seminar or product launch. This means the system can be configured from a vocal-only application to a full band mic- up, and, with the addition of the Madras subs, the system will operate nicely depending upon the style of performance and expectations,“ McCauley reported.

“This is one of the few live venues I know of that has wireless loudspeaker control capacity,“ McCauley added. “By touching the sound icon on the screen, the Madras speakers are lowered into place and turned on. The PolarChoice mic is also controlled by the sound icon. As system designers and integrators we are very pleased with all the Dynacord and EV products and view their installation as essential to the positive outcome of the entire project.“

To date one function has been held in the room since it opened in October. Mark Grosvenor, IT Manager Blacktown Library commented that everything worked well and that the system was quite easy to use: “We were blown away by the sound. The drop down speakers look really nice, and the quality of the speakers is great.“
