Telex Hosts Installed Sound Academy

July 27th, 2005

Seminars, training and demonstration sessions led by Telex Tech Support specialists and Product Managers were held in Telex’s specially designed academy and at the Historic Pantages Theatre in downtown Minneapolis. Special guest presenters included audio consultants Bob Ledo of Coffeen, Fricke and Associates and Kathy Norton of Systems Solutions. As is always the case with a Telex Academy, the educational aspect was amply balanced with social events, including dinner at top local steakhouse & jazz club Rossi’s, which has grown a reputation for top shelf acts and top quality sound largely on the strength of its superb EV, Midas & KT sound system.

The Grand Audio Demo at the Historic Pantages Theatre was a highpoint of the academy. The beautifully restored theatre, which is already home to an XLC line array, Midas Heritage console and Klark Teknik processing, provided a grand setting for grand scale demos of the new X-Line Very Compact line-array, Xi-Series, the new ZX1, ZX5, Sx600, FRi, FRX, Plasma, Dynacord’s Cobra compact line-array, and, of course, the XLC. On the final morning of the academy, guests attended presentations on wired and wireless microphone and assisted listening solutions from EV and Telex.

Michael Webb, Director of Sales for Installed Sound, The Americas, reported: “Telex Academy is our most powerful advantage against our competitors. These 3-1/2 day long training sessions provide systems integrators with a large variety of application-based topics to help them learn more about the ’hows’ and ’whys’ it takes to stay ahead. There’s very little sales and marketing ’fluff’, which if presented, would be a huge lack of respect for their valuable time spent away from their businesses. In addition to solid audio theory and ’hands on’ product demonstrations, we also provide business courses to help them become more profitable and grow their businesses. There are numerous other benefits for our dealers when they attend a Telex Academy. One of these is the opportunity in meeting one another, making friends, and developing long lasting relationships, through which, they can help each other and learn from each other. We solicit their comments and suggestions after each day’s training for purposes of continuous improvement for future academy sessions. The responses we have received have been exceptionally good! We love doing this!“

John Dezell of Sound Designs LLC gave a contractor’s perspective on the Telex Academy:

“Mike Webb and his team did a marvelous job in presenting the material and in making attendees all feel welcome as members of the Telex family. From a technical perspective, I enrolled in the academy to gain additional insight into the specification process to better serve my varied customer base. It was my expectation to receive support material, engineering guidance and sales information to expand my product offerings. The academy provided me with this information and, in most cases, exceeded my expectations. For the record, I think the Xi-2123A is the finest loudspeaker I’ve ever heard!“

Dezell continued: “The outcome of my visit to Minnesota was enhanced further by the format of the event. As an independent contractor, I rarely get the chance to network with other dealers from diverse geographic backgrounds for a period of several days. Of particular interest were discussions with other business owners who have additional knowledge needs - more than simply that of technical information. The job costing presentation and bidding sessions provided an extra bonus to the event - an economic value which was unexpected and greatly appreciated. I left Minneapolis with a greater sense of the possibilities available through the connection with a national dealer network and others who share my passion for the business.“
