Electro-Voice Microphones Shine at the Australian Gospel Music Festival

June 1st, 2006

Along with a strong showing of Electro-Voice speaker systems, the festival’s number two venue, the Bigtop, was an all-EV environment when it came to microphones. The Bigtop featured such artists as Rookie, Hillsong United and U.S. visitors Randy Stonehill and Pillar. The main vocal microphones were EV N/D967s in both cabled and wireless form (with EV RE-1 transmitters). The drums featured an N/D868 kick mic, with N/D168 on snare top and a classic PL 6 on snare bottom with N/D468s around the toms. Condenser-wise, an RE200 saw action on the hi hats and new EV/Blue Cardinals handled drum overhead duties. Percussion and specials (such as flute) were handled by RE510s, proving their versatility beyond vocal duties. Guitar cabs were mic’d with the new EV/Blue Ravens. Klark Teknik DN100s provided premium quality DI interfaces.

The EV microphones performed faultlessly for the three-day festival; all the artists and engineers were very happy with the performance of the system and the microphones in particular. Systems Engineer Phill Webb commented: “it’s unusual for one brand to be able to provide a superb result across a complete stage for both instruments and vocals. The 967s are just great for vocals; it’s the microphone I always go to when I want maximum level and isolation in both FOH and monitors. The real standout though is the RE510 - I have yet to come across a better flute/sax/percussion microphone. And to think EV market it only as a vocal microphone - it does so many other things so well!“

This year The Australian Gospel Music Festival saw a three-day attendance in excess of 45,000 people, with nearly 5,000 attending the Bigtop finale of U.S. band Pillar (Pillar will be supporting P.O.D. on the North American summer tour this year).
