EV Sx600: Setting the Standard for Sports Sound

September 7th, 2006

Sx boxes are a stock-in-trade choice for audio specialists like John Davidson of WES, who recently specified Sx600 (dual-element vertical line array in a single lightweight enclosure) and compact Sx300 loudspeakers at Dover High School football field in Dover, Ohio:

“We do a lot of work at school sports facilities,“ Davidson commented, “and find EV Sx600PIX (“PIX’ designating the weatherproof, constant voltage option) loudspeakers offer an unparalleled combination of high output, long throw, focused coverage and full-bandwidth intelligibility for outdoor applications like this. Four pole-mounted Sx600PIX loudspeakers (powered by EV CPS2T amplifiers) address the home and away bleachers from each corner of the field, assisted by Sx300PIX fills on the end zones. Dover High School wanted to do it right, and we were able to both balance their budget for the project and exceed their expectations for what an affordable high school stadium system can do. The Sx boxes handle everything from game announcements to loud rock playback with ease, and are built to withstand the harshest conditions.“

“EV’s proprietary SuperSAM™ (Super Strong Arm Mount) mounting hardware for these loudspeakers is really precise and easy to work with,“ Davidson continued. “The Sx600PIXs are mounted 50-feet up on four poles, all of which are situated within a few feet of the seating areas. To address this, we aimed them down at 15-degrees. When you look up at the Sx600PIXs from right underneath, your first thought is “there’s no way we’re going to get high frequency coverage here’, but we got 2kHz coverage clear as a bell to within five feet of the near seats, which is remarkable. And, of course, the rest of the seats are covered with clean audio. The Sx600PIX has the controlled performance of systems you’d hear indoors, and it really adds to the whole game experience - the school is going to start the new academic year sounding better than ever!“
