ELECTRO-VOICE REV WIRELESS ON THE ROAD WITH RICKY MARTIN

The new REV wireless system from Electro-Voice got its first taste of world-class touring with Latin music superstar Ricky Martin on the recent ten-week South and Central American leg of his current “Black and White“ world tour. Monitor Engineer Raphael “Raf“ Alkins and RF Engineer William Benavides used the REV-the latest generation of EV wireless-on electric and acoustic guitars, and were thrilled with the results:

“We worked with (Electro-Voice dealers) AV Tech Services to demo the REV systems and loved what we heard,“ Alkins says. “AV Tech Services also made it clear that an investment in EV hardware includes the best manufacturer support out there. At this level there’s no room for excuses; equipment needs to deliver, and any tech support is time critical. We obviously had questions about the new systems when setting up for the tour, and we got immediate assistance when we needed it. Reliability is not just about the products; it’s also about the people standing behind them. That said, the REV worked flawlessly for the entire tour of South America.“

“The show has a total of 42 wireless frequencies running for a full two hour show, and we wanted to test-drive the REV on the guitars. It worked great, and it worked every night. There’s no better way to test a wireless system than on a tour like this. Most of the logistics ran smoothly, but we inevitably have to deal with generators, bad power and equipment being tossed on and off of containers, planes and trucks. The REV proved to be bulletproof.“

“We really put this wireless through the wringer,“ Alkins adds, “leaving no stone unturned. I tried an A/B switch between wireless and hardwire, and the difference was indistinguishable-this is the most wired-sounding wireless I’ve ever heard. We consistently got clean, full-bandwidth audio. We also enjoyed the absence of coloration-we got great, pure signal level all the way, all the time. The US leg of the tour began in mid-April, and the REV is along for the ride-six channels of it, racked as a permanent fixture in our rig. That says it all. As with all new products, there’s always someone willing to work them hard in the real world and report back to the manufacturer; in the case of the REV, that’s me on this tour!“
