Goth-Metal Pioneers Type-O-Negative Tour with Electro-Voice Wired and Wireless Microphones

April 30th, 2007

Minneapolis, Minnesota (April 2007): Celebrating the March 13th release of their album Dead Again - which debuted at #27 on the Billboard Top 200 - goth-metal pioneers Type-O-Negative are currently on a U.S. tour through May 8th. Upon completion of the U.S. tour leg, Type-O-Negative will spend the rest of the summer performing throughout Europe.

While in the Minneapolis, Electro-Voice representatives were fortunate to spend time with the band and crew, all of whom were quite impressed with the performance of Electro-Voice wired and wireless microphones. Longtime EV endorser, Johnny Kelly, drummer with Type-O-Negative and Danzig, currently employs a full complement of EV mics on his Pearl kit. From the EV N/D468 and N/D478 on stare and toms, to the EV N/D868 for bass drum, and either EV RE200s or EV Blue Cardinals on overheads, Johnny has been a strong proponent of EV products for years. Johnny Kelly remarks: “EV mics sound great! They really capture my style and the natural sounds of the drums. Plus, they’re really roadworthy. We play very aggressively and they hold up to the abuse!“

Type-O-Negative’s frontman/bassist Peter Steele is now performing wirelessly via the Electro-Voice REV wireless system with N/D967 head. Steele is also auditioning the REV wireless for bass. Guitarist Kenny Hickey, keyboardist Josh Silver, and drummer extraordinaire Johnny Kelly also demand a mic with the gain-before-feedback and clarity that the N/D967 delivers in high SPL environments for backing vocals.

The band’s FOH engineer Marc Alan also remarked on the sonic integrity of the N/D967, stating that the mic provided a “better stereo image across the full frequency bandwidth than its competitors“. Marc is well acquainted with EV equipment as he also runs FOH at the House of Blues in New Orleans, a completely “EV-ized“ venue.

About the Electro-Voice REV Wireless Microphone System

The Electro-Voice REV was launched at Winter NAMM 2007 and became an instant hit with the world’s FOH engineers and top touring professionals, including Bruce Reiter, FOH with Static-X and Megadeth, Steve “Sonny“ B. Taylor (FOH Neal McCoy), Al Davis (FOH George Clinton, Reverend Al Davis, and Lee Scratch Perry), Jeremy Smith (FOH GWAR), Ozzy Osbourne’s bassist, Blasko and metal stalwarts Static-X. Static-X’s longtime guitar technician Erik Fincher remarks: “They REV systems work great, sound great, and look cool. Electro-Voice definitely knows how to do microphones and wireless.“

EV’s new REV professional wireless system offers an array of new and different features from its predecessor the RE-1. REV’s optimized analog audio path was developed with Digital Audio Labs® to provide the truest representation of a wired microphone sound possible in a wireless system. REV-Link™ PC software enables remote monitoring, control and programming over a CAN bus connection through a EV UCC-1 converter or EV Netmax N8000. Factory set channel groups allow up to 16 systems to operate simultaneously in one frequency band. Programmable in 25 kHz steps across 24 MHz operating bandwidth, there are over 950 possible channels so you can always find a clear channel. Advanced ClearScan™ automatic group and channel selection allows quick, simple setup.

REV offers two handheld options: a stylish metal compact handle for Concert and Broadcast, and the user friendly Presentation Handheld for rental house and other applications. As well as offering four capsule options, REV features EV’s one-of-a-kind guitar optimization setting.
