ALL-ELECTRO-VOICE FOR SIX FLAGS OVER GEORGIA
The new attraction is part of the venerable theme park’s 40th Anniversary celebration upgrade, and was accompanied by an aggressive ad campaign on TV and radio. Built around weatherproof Sx600PI two-element vertical line array loudspeakers, the new EV system provides the precise area coverage they need and met their budget requirements.
ASL heard the Sx600PI at the Telex/EV Atlanta Installed Sound Academy in May of 2006, and, after studying their line-array directivity and characteristics, decided that they would be the perfect speaker system for this application. Since the primary program material was to be playback via CD and sound effects via an Instant Replay machine, ASL supplemented the system’s low-end by adding two EV QRx218 sub-woofers placed on either side of the stage. Also, knowing that the attraction’s characters would be lip-synching to the program material, they added two ZX1-90 speakers, flown from both downstage upper corners for on-stage monitoring. Their design also included the versatile EV Dx38 processor for signal control and processing (as well as for system protection) and three EV CPS 3000S power amps (one to drive the Sx600s, one to drive the QRX218S, one to drive the ZX1s).
Under the leadership of Atlanta Sound and Lighting’s Founder and President Scott C. Waterbury, Steven “Dublin“ Stapleton designed and engineered the project from start to finish. Says Stapleton: “The fidelity of this system, coupled with its tonal response and excellent directivity characteristics, made this system the spot-on choice for this unique environment. Once we had the system installed and up and running, even we were impressed by its sound quality, coverage and responsiveness.“
Bobby MacDonald, Entertainment Technology Supervisor for Six Flags Over Georgia says they were “just blown away“ by how great the system sounded and how well it met their needs. “We were on a tight schedule and an even tighter budget“ says MacDonald, “so when ASL presented us with this package and explained it’s strengths, features and affordability, we agreed that EV was the way to go. ASL came in on time, under budget, and delivered exactly what we needed. We consider this an out-of-the-park home run for Six Flags Theme Park, EV, and for Atlanta Sound and Lighting!“
