Emirates Airlines Launches New Route with Electro-Voice Sound

Local AV specialists J&S Audio Visual deployed Electro-Voice Plasma P1 two-way powered loudspeakers for the evening’s events, which included a jazz and cocktail reception, multi-media presentation, firework display and band performance (during dinner), requiring only four of the compact P1s to fill the three-story main lobby space with crisp, clear sound for 900 guests-despite the challenging architectural surfaces and high trim height.

“The four boxes covered the entire reception area, vertically and horizontally, with high intelligibility and plenty of headroom to spare,“ says James Kragle of J&S. “I wanted to keep the sight lines open in this beautiful space, no matter where anyone was standing in the room, so I flew the P1s in the light truss 35-feet overhead, aimed straight down over the guests. This worked out perfectly for the entire evening’s program, and it also kept sound reflection off the 75-100 feet high glass wall to a minimum. We even synched up the speakers for the fireworks display, which guests viewed through the front window. The P1 has it all: versatile rigging, a great power to weight ratio, and typically excellent EV sound quality-it never fails to impress, even at the most prestigious events.“

“The audio system that J&S installed into the Sarofim Hall Lobby was excellent,“ commented Mike Siddaway, Corporate Communications, Emirates Airlines. “Given the dual challenges of a ceiling height in excess of 60 feet and one wall of the venue being all glass, I thought the audio quality was fantastic. Added to this were the logistics of having a jazz duo perform during the cocktail reception and then having only 45 minutes during the multi-media presentation to re-set for the band that played during dinner. Flying the P1s on the truss ensured a smooth and even distribution throughout the venue with two advantages: firstly the 900 guests were able to network during dinner without shouting, and secondly you maintained the feeling of a ’party’ with sufficient audio clarity for those who wanted to enjoy the music and dance.“
