EV XLD: FROM PRODUCT DEMO TO PRESIDENTIAL DINNER

Like many sound companies around North America, Upstage Right Productions (Cherry Hill, NJ) heard for themselves how useful the EV XLD281 very compact line array could be during the X-Line Very Compact demo tour of North America.

“The XLD has quickly proven itself as a valuable investment,“ Upstage Right’s Barry Friedman reported. “The demo tour sealed the deal for us earlier this year, and solidified our relationship with EV as a “hands-on’ manufacturer. Many major pro audio companies make line arrays in various sizes, but EV invited us out to hear and see why theirs sound better. We also got our technical questions answered with expertise on the spot, like “sure, they sound great, but how long did it take you to EQ this room out?’ The answer? “Come on over, take a look - the EQ is almost flat.’ Simple. It was a straight-out case of “this is what our box does.’

“In this sense, the demo made the sale, and we brought the XLD to this prestigious event with the assurance of its high performance still fresh in our ears from the demo tour. Sure enough, on its first gig the XLD sounded fantastic in front of a sold-out audience of top politicians, dignitaries and businessmen.

“We started off purchasing a total of eight XLD 2 x 8“ boxes, with plans to grow the rig over the next year,“ Friedman added. “We’re currently running the XLDs with three EV CP3000S amps, which are also unbeatable for their size and weight (under 18 pounds), and Klark Teknik DN9848 processing. We’ve taken the rig out a handful of times now and it really is remarkable to hear how big it sounds and see how small it is - the speed with which these arrays go up is amazing.

“In corporate A/V applications, where lighting, design and looks in general are important, the discrete appearance of the whole XLD rig adds to the overall finesse of a production. But size isn’t everything, and the fact these little boxes are crammed full of world-class components is what really sets them apart - they simply sound better than the other compact arrays we listened to.“
