EVI Flies High at Mexico City Airport’s New Terminal 2
Audio Video & Control Systems of Mexico City-specialists in fixed installations with EV equipment-designed and installed a system featuring 165 EVI-28 and 12 EVI-12 speakers for the 242,666 sq. meter terminal, which will handle an estimated 32 million passengers per year. The speakers are distributed throughout the whole of T2, covering the check-in, departure and arrival halls, and gates.
“With its distinctive modern architecture, wide open spaces, and high ceilings, the new T2 demanded a loudspeaker that could offer both aesthetic and acoustic refinement,“ says Mr. Hugo Gonzalez, Applications Specialist at AVCS. “The EVI series is designed specifically to address areas where controlled coverage and intelligibility is essential, and has a tidy footprint and streamlined design that really compliments this environment.
“This major EVI install is part of a state-of-the-art, networked, IP-compatible information and paging AV system that provides a new level of performance for one of the busiest terminals in the world,“ Gonzalez adds. “As the critical final step in the signal chain, the EVI’s superb sound quality and seamless distribution raises the bar for audio integration in the Latin American transport industry, just as the new terminal has elevated the status of Benito Juarez International amongst the world’s major airports.“
“This is another exemplary EV installation by AVCS,“ adds Nicolas Betancur, Inside Sales Engineer - Latin America, Bosch Communications Systems, “whose experience as a systems integrator for airports-and in the commercial audio world in general-is second to none. The sheer size of Mexico City, the biggest city in the western hemisphere, and the massive amount of traffic coming through the airport makes this an important installation that shows the world how to do airport audio right. The airport industry will hear the difference, both here in Latin America and around the world, along with millions of travelers. We are delighted that EV is front and center in this prestigious project.“

About Electro-Voice EVI loudspeakers
Electro-Voice’s unique EVI Vari Intense® (VI) speakers are engineered to eliminate the need for additional long-throw horns or delayed sources in many rooms. The EVI Vari Intense® series provides an economical solution for permanent installations that require coverage over a rectangular area. In a typical room, the distance from the loudspeaker to the last row is two or more times that to the front row, resulting in a substantial loss in level and intelligibility at the rear.
The VI horn delivers 6 to 8 dB more SPL to the back of the room, overcoming the level loss without resorting to the expense and complexity of additional speaker systems or components. The problem is old; EV’s solution is new. EVI is perfect for conference centers, houses of worship, halls, and other venues where evenly distributed SPL is essential. A simple 3-2-1 rule-of-thumb applies for determining EVI coverage patterns: The pattern’s width will equal twice the height of the room, and the pattern’s length will equal three times the height.
