Electro-Voice Plans Fantastic Showing at InfoComm 2008!

May 30th, 2008

Bosch Communications Systems is currently preparing a fantastic showing at this year’s InfoComm in Las Vegas, Nevada (June 18th - 20th, 2008). The company’s prestigious pro audio brands Electro-Voice, Midas, Klark Teknik, Dynacord, Telex, RTS, and Bosch will be represented at booth C-3439 and demo room N-109.

Electro-Voice will be presenting a host of exciting new products at InfoComm, including two very innovative loudspeaker families and a brand new microphone series. In addition to the new products shown at booth C-3439, there’ll be a unique opportunity for customers to hear the latest from Electro-Voice in demo room N-109-as well as learn about “The Technology Behind EV“ from the company’s world renowned engineers, who will present on the company’s innovations. Presentations will take place each day of InfoComm at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm. In addition, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 18th members of the pro audio media are formally invited to a special demonstration, followed by their chance to personally meet and talk with the presenters listed below.

Presentations will include:

New SMX Series Woofers

Presenter: Alan Babb, Principal Engineer

A presentation of the application of modern measurement techniques and cutting-edge computer modeling systems in loudspeaker design. By using these techniques, we decrease the development life cycle, increase system robustness, and optimize performance.

New High Frequency Compression Drivers

Presenter: David Bie, Transducer Engineer Manager

An inside look at the techniques and processes involved in the design and manufacture of compression drivers, including:

  • Basic acoustical theory - how & why compression drivers work

  • Application of engineering computer software to optimize design

  • How parts and assembly tolerances are controlled in manufacturing

  • Tests and measurements used to evaluate product performance

  • What does RMD mean for compression drivers?

  • Improving and verifying reliability/power handling

  • Evolution of EV drivers - examining key improvements between past and current models

Trends in Modern Audio Amplifier Design

Presenter: Josef Plager, Senior Amplifiers Engineer

Why is it a wise choice to rely on amplifiers from Electro-Voice? This short presentation will survey trends in professional amplifier design: highest output power, light weight, and full remote and supervision ability. It will examine how amplifiers from Electro-Voice fulfill these requirements without sacrificing the most important feature of an audio amplifier: the best audio performance without compromise.

Presenter: George Georgalis, Senior Technical Support Applications Specialist

A presentation of the latest EV DSP technology. A quick overview of today’s Digital Audio Networks and how they apply to fixed installation applications. An overview of the system used in the EV Demo Room.

Measurements: IIR vs FIR Filters

Presenter: Mike Kasten, System Design Engineer

IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) versus FIR (Finite Impulse Response) DSP filters. A look at the benefits of using FIR filtering technology as compared to standard IIR filtering technology.

Electro-Voice Engineering Philosophy

Presenter: Dave Carlson, Chief Engineer

Dave’s 24 years of EV experience covers a wide range of design and application knowledge, from components to very large systems. Talk to Dave for insight on what makes EV special.

Passive Networks

Presenter: Steve Jakowski, System Design Engineer

Recent developments have enabled steep slope (up to 36 dB/octave) passive networks using a single amplifier channel that provide speaker response equal to or better than DSP filters. The presentation will show examples of filters and their results in new EV speaker products introduced at InfoComm.

Presenter: Ed Pletsch, Chief Engineer

A discussion covering EV microphones used for Installation, Live, and Broadcast applications, including:

  • What makes a good microphone?

  • Dynamic vs Condenser

  • Capsule design and suspension
