International gospel star shines with Electro-Voice sound

Drummer Boy Sound (Miami, FL) deployed an extensive Electro-Voice Xw stage monitor system for the event, a fundraiser for the University of Ft. Lauderdale held at the school’s Faith Center and attended by 3,000 people. Though the venue used their in-house PA for the show, the EV wedges were brought in to meet Haughton’s rider specification for high-end monitors.

“When there are 19 performers on stage, excellent monitoring is essential,“ says Harold Cummings of Drummer Boy Sound, “and the Xw systems provided a perfect combination of power, intelligibility, and, of course, rider-friendliness in a very compact footprint. There’s really no better way to hear how well your system works than with a gospel group, and Israel Haughton is one of the very best artists out there. Stage monitors create a whole different dynamic than in-ears, and a group like this thrives on that live acoustic energy-the stage wedges really enhance the collective performance, and the audience picks up on that.“

On stage, Israel Haughton was flanked by six praise team singers per side, with six additional instrumentalists. DBS had every inch of the stage covered with four Xw12 and eight Xw15 monitors-EV’s top of the line stage monitors. Four EV Xi1082 speakers provided front fills. Plenty of clean power and headroom was provided by four P3000RL, four P1200RL, and three CP3000S amplifiers. External processing was via two Electro-Voice Dx38 units.
