EV’ AT ITALIAN TSUMAMI BENEFIT GALA EVENT

On March 21st Milan’s Filaforum played host to a charity event featuring a galaxy of Italian rock, pop and classical stars, including Zucchero, Andrea Bocelli, Claudio Baglioni, Elisa, Antonello Venditti and Gigi D’Alessio. Called “Music for Asia’, the concert drew a paying audience of 10,000 - despite being broadcast live on Italian television - and raised 540,000 euro for the United Nations relief program for the tsunami disaster. The money will be spent on reconstruction as well as medical care for Sri Lankan survivors of the December 2004 tsunami.

The production for this special event was handled by the Milan-based sound company Milano Music Service, which is run by Gigi Belloni and Riccio Colucci and supported by EVI Audio’s Italian partners Texim. They opted for the following systems:

The two highlights of the concert, which lasted around three hours, were the joint appearance of Andrea Bocelli and Mario Rejes and a virtual duet by Zucchero and Miles Davis (on video). To give the audience an idea of where the money was going and why, the organizers rigged up a large screen onto which a report from the disaster area was projected. Speaking for the UN, James Lynch described “Music for Asia’ as a “complete success’, adding: “I would like to thank all the people who made this great event possible. You have helped to improve the situation in Sri Lanka.“
