Electro-Voice sound for Wisconsin high school

December 3rd, 2008

Audio Engineering, Inc. (Loves Park, Il) recently installed a new Electro-Voice sound system in the gymnasium at F.J. Turner High School in Beloit, WI, making the space more user-friendly and versatile.

“Their previous two-speaker system fell far short of the flexibility they needed in their gym,“ says Mike Schindler, Vice President of Sales for Audio Engineering; “after using an inadequate system for 10 years, it was time for an upgrade.“

Balancing the school’s budget with their sound reinforcement needs, Audio Engineering specified a system built around three EV ZX5 speakers (to provide coverage to the bleachers) and eight Sx100+ speakers (distributed throughout the gymnasium). The entire system is powered by just one CPS 2.6 and two CPS 2.8 Contractor Precision Series amplifiers. The new installation also includes an RE-2 wireless microphone system.

“The sound can be adjusted very easily,“ says Schindler; “during basketball games they have the ability to cover the bleachers and increase the volume, while keeping the floor at a lower level so the players won’t be disturbed. During assemblies the system can be altered again to give everybody the same volume. My technicians were very impressed by the ZX5s. They sound superb at all volumes, deliver excellent vocal intelligibility, and come in a very compact package that belies their power and coverage capabilities. The quality of the components inside these boxes speaks for itself.“

“The RE-2 handheld with N/D767a head can be used anywhere in the gym,“ adds Schindler. “We made plans to remote-mount antennas, but that mic gets such great coverage that we didn’t need them. It saved us a lot of labor and lowered cost for the school. It also means the teacher doesn’t need to shout to be heard! The school is very happy with the way the new system sounds and operates-it has made their gym a more versatile and user-friendly space.“
