HANOVER (GERMANY) SOCCER STADIUM PREPARES FOR 2006 WORLD CUP WITH EV®

Both the sound reinforcement and the alarm systems for the newly renovated AWD Arena in Hanover, Germany, were supplied by EVI Audio, the European wing of Telex Communications.

The first soccer match in the fully modernized arena was Mexico v Japan in the Federation Cup on the 16th June.

Hanover, Germany (June 2005): Sixty-three million euro has been spent preparing the AWD Arena in Hanover for the 2006 World Cup; the 49,000-seater stadium now complies fully with FIFA regulations.

A key item in this modernization program was the provision of new sound reinforcement and public address systems, with the decision-makers opting in each case for systems from EVI Audio. Main components include Electro-Voice® FRX+PI loudspeakers and P-RL remote control DSP amplifiers. The paging system is a Dynacord® ProMatrix™ system (ProAnnounce™ in the USA).

For a major project such as the AWD Arena, EVI Audio’s virtually comprehensive product portfolio offers considerable advantages, since each of the different areas of the stadium – the VIP lounges, the stands, the playing field etc. – pose a different problem, which (naturally) requires a different solution. Furthermore, the ability to access the pro audio equipment from the paging and alarm system is not simply an enormous convenience but also brings considerable benefits in terms of reliability and safety. This emphasizes the advantages of purchasing an all-encompassing solution from the same manufacturer: problems of incompatibility are eliminated, and the various sub-systems both complement each other and act as back-up systems. Telex Communications is the world’s only manufacturer capable of providing a single, integrated interface for both the public address and the pro sound systems (IRIS™).

The entire paging and alarm needs of the stadium are satisfied by a Dynacord ProMatrix system. This is housed with the pro audio equipment in one main control center and four sub stations on the catwalks, connected by redundant fibre optic cables.

The pro audio and public address systems are fully integrated via a software interface, which means that important messages or evacuation instructions are not confined to the public address system indoors, but can also be routed to the main pro audio system covering the grandstands whenever appropriate. System reports in the pro audio system are displayed at the control center of the public address system as well as by speaker stations. The pro audio equipment (network, amplifiers, loudspeakers) was configured, and is operated and monitored, using IRIS System software. Furthermore, the use of EV remote amplifiers (P3000 RL, P1200 RL, P900 RL) ensures that detailed and accurate information is available at all times concerning the state of the loudspeakers installed. IRIS System Check allows the performance of each individual driver in the system to be monitored at all times.

The system includes the following EV components:

Grandstands, pitch:
EV NetMax N8000 controllers
EV P-RL remote control DSP amplifiers

EV FRX+PI loudspeakers

VIP areas:
EV EVID 4.2 loudspeakers (mainly to provide high quality programme material in the VIP and hospitality suites)
