“The SoBe Live group understands the importance of providing top quality sound reinforcement for their artists,” reported Harold Cummings of
Drummer Boy Sound, “and we've been doing that with them for six months now. For the Urban Mystic show, we added to the venue’s Alpha System with FOH and monitor gear that offered equal parts compact size and high performance. At FOH we used Dynacord CMS-1000 mixing console, which, though small and easy to use, has great-sounding mic preamps and onboard effects of a quality you’d find on a much larger desk. We tweaked the mix with (2) Klark Teknik DN370 EQs–industry standard sound. Lightweight EV CP3000S power amps were used to power the (6) EV ZX1-90 stage monitors, which have incredible clarity and coverage for such a tiny footprint, the (2) QRx112 boxes we flew in the VIP section, and (2) EV SxA powered boxes used for the DJ booth. All the mics were EV: N/D967 wired for backing vocals and N/D967 wireless on an EV RE-1 system for the lead vocal. The club already has (4) Dynacord Alpha boxes and (4) Dynacord Alpha B-3 subs installed, so mains and low end were more than covered!”
Cummings added: “For a show like this we draw from our arsenal of compact EV, Dynacord, Midas and Klark Teknik sound equipment, spec’ing a system to precisely fit any small to medium-sized venue’s needs. All the gear we used for the Urban Mystic show would fit into the back of a small van, but when deployed it turns a club into a concert venue, delivering a top-notch FOH and monitor mix. That ‘big sound, small box’ factor helps us keep things streamlined with the sightlines open, all without compromising any sonic details.”
