PLASMA POWER FOR TEXANS TAILGATERS

“The six Plasma P1 powered boxes are fantastic as monitors,” says James Kragle of J&S Audio, who also mixes the show. “I chose them for their versatility and because I can get some serious SPL out of them—these things get loud. I’ve used P1s for a number of rock gigs, and have had nothing but compliments on their clarity and power. I especially like their balanced output; put up two as a stereo pair with horns down the center and anyone listening will agree there’s not much else out there that can touch Plasma in terms of bang for the buck.

 

“I’ve successfully set these up to throw audio 225 feet with no loss of sibilance, using just one P1 box per side,” Kragle adds. “That cinched the deal for me, and now I use them all the time for all kinds of applications. For monitor duty, I simply flip the high pass at 100Hz. The cool thing is I can move them around on stage with no issues, and the absence of an amp rack keeps things tidy. Plus they run pretty flat—I barely do any filtering on these boxes. They deliver high SPL intelligibility with hardly any treatment on the EQ. I can dial a rough mix in without turning these boxes on and know exactly what to expect by show time—that’s why they’re always working.”
