Electro-Voice XLC shines at Boys & Girls Clubs of America fundraiser
The Electro-Voice XLC127 DVX mid-sized line array continues to prove itself a supremely versatile loudspeaker system, equally at home on the highest-profile rock tours or at corporate events requiring precise coverage and sonic detail. GravelRoad Entertainment LLC (Cleveland, TN) deployed an input-to-output Electro-Voice PA for one such event, the 6th Annual Steak & Stake Dinner at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center, held recently to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Gordon, Murray, and Whitfield Counties. The evening’s program included awards presentations and special guest speakers, including Bruce Pearl, Men's Basketball Coach at the University of Tennessee, and raised over $128,000. By all accounts, GravelRoad’s system—built around 16 XLC boxes with low-end support via eight Xsubs—raised the bar for sound at the venue, as Slade Bumgardner, V.P. of Audio/Visual Systems, GravelRoad explained:
“What sets the XLC apart from the other line arrays out there? It offers a perfect balance of clarity, warmth, and raw power. EV equipment is great for vocals, and they’ve reached a new high point with DVX woofers. This rig really shines at speaking events like this; however, for concert events, it has all the power handling you need to add a ton of punch to the equation. It’s very flexible. The XLC is also super-easy to fly, which the crew loves. That saves us time, meaning we can focus on the show.”
Even though this was a regionally focused event, there were national Boys & Girls Clubs representatives present, and it was important for the organizers that the audio visual production be excellent. Bumgardner adds, “After the show they told us that the audio quality had never been higher at one of their events. They loved the way the EV RE-2 wireless mic’s sounded, they loved the EV stage monitors, and they loved the main PA. A number of venue employees also told us that they’d never heard the room sound so good, and they’ve had national acts performing there for the past 20 years. That’s the kind of feedback we like to hear after a show, and it affirms our investment in EV.”
