FRANKFURT'S EV-EQUIPPED COMMERZBANK ARENA IS READY FOR WORLD CUP 2006

June 3rd saw the official handover of the newly furbished Commerzbank Arena, Frankfurt, to the committee organizing the 2006 World Cup. The project, which cost 126 million euros and lasted a full three years, included the installation of state-of-the-art sound, public address and alarm systems from Telex Communications’ European wing EVI Audio, featuring equipment from Telex Pro Audio brands EV and Dynacord.
Work began on the ultra-modern 52,000-seat stadium, which has a retractable roof and is built on the site formerly occupied by the Waldstadion, in June 2002 and was completed in May 2005. The final cost came to 126 million euro with a further 174 million devoted to the stadium periphery.

The new home of soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt, which has just won promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, satisfies in every respect the demands of a modern stadium — above all in terms of audio quality. That’s because the planners opted for an integrated sound reinforcement, public address and alarm system from EVI Audio.

The advantage of a one-source solution such as this is that all the components are perfectly matched and compatibility problems avoided, which, when combined with the legendary reliability and user-friendliness of EVI Audio sound systems, adds up to a system beyond question. The sound and public address systems, for example, are perfectly integrated, making it possible to route important announcements or alarm messages through either the sound system or the public address system in the stadium interior or both. Coverage for the grandstands and playing area is provided by EV NetMax N8000 controllers, EV P-RL series remote-controlled amps and EV FRX+PI enclosures.

The sound system is configured, controlled and monitored using Electro-Voice IRIS software, which makes it possible to conduct a complete system check that takes in all the loudspeaker components installed in the arena and is based on impedance measurements performed by the remote amplifiers.

The stadium’s public address and alarm system, like that of the new metro station, is a Dynacord ProMatrix (ProAnnounce in the US). An additional system covers the access areas, turnstiles, ticket office and bus station.

EVI Audio’s installation partner for the massive project was Landau Electronic of Mörfelden-Walldorf.

The systems installed in the new Commerzbank Arena include the following:

Sound systems (EV)
24 x EV P3000 RL
16 x EV P900 RL
4 x EV P1200 RL
84 x EV FRX+PI series enclosures
5 x EV N8000 network controllers

Public address systems (Dynacord)
6 x DPM 4000
74 x DPA 4140
31 x DPA 4120
6 x DPA 4245
