EV UNLEASHES GUT-CHURNING SPLS AT SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND!!!
This year’s SOTU tour features all manner of metal and hardcore heavyweights, including Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Cannibal Corpse, and many more. Special guests are, for the second year running, gore-rockers in-extremis GWAR. The tour is promoted by House of Blues, with audio equipment from db Sound.
Upon admission, this is what you get, set after set: a menu of maximum SPL morsels that vary in flavor from loud and heavy to louder and heavier. It all adds up to an eviscerating sonic experience where "total immersion" in sound is an understatement… and, though the crowd is literally swimming in high SPLs well into the 120dBA zone, things still sound good...
Good enough to warrant some more metaphors, even: The X-Line delivers a thick coating of sonic coverage, moving air with such force that your eyeballs dry up and your ears squint, but don’t hurt. Each break between bands is a brief respite from the relentless barrage of head-scrambling hammering kick drum and boiling tar-pit guitar/bass mayhem. Yes, it really does feel like that. But that’s a good thing, right?

“And, of course, I’m using my tried and tested EV mics for the GWAR show – one of the highpoints of the SOTU tour. I defy any other touring pro to put his mics through such a mess and still have them work perfectly. The same RE-1 handheld has held up for years now, and the heads just need a quick clean now and then to remove the gallons of fake blood and gore GWAR use during the show. I'm also using the new EV/Blue Cardinal large diaphragm condensers as drum cymbal overheads, and the definition is awesome--I'm looking forward to putting those in front of the guitar cabinets. At the moment I'm using EV RE1000 condensers on the guitar cabs--what a fantastic mic... a classic. I wish EV would reintroduce them, hint, hint! There are EV mics everywhere on stage when I mix: nothing I’ve tried sounds better, and they survive the trials of touring. They keep on working, and that’s why I use them.”
