EV Microphones Past and Present at Australian Trade Show

The booth featured an extensive display of Electro-Voice microphones from both past and present, highlighting the leading role that EV has had in mic design and development during its 80 year history. The vintage collection included examples encompassing the complete history of EV microphones. These dated back to the 1930’s, with examples of EV’s first release of carbon and ribbon microphones, and also included dynamic, crystal, and ceramic microphones from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, leading through to classics from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

 

The vintage display was assembled by Australian microphone product manager and fanatic Phill Webb, who at last count owns in excess of 160 EV microphones. “Electro-Voice has a very rich microphone tradition that covers everything from WWII landing barges to TV, Radio, and Film microphones, NASA Moon landings and sound for Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. EV’s pedigree is second to none and it is my desire to make more people aware of it” says Phill.

 

In addition, ENTECH also saw a display of the current range of EV microphones, including a custom made REV-PHD9 wireless transmitter finished in chrome and personally owned by Phill. “As most of my vintage EV microphones are chrome, I thought it only right that I have chrome wireless transmitters; artists love them—they have lots of ‘bling’” adds Phill.

 

Phill Webb has been responsible for EV microphones in Australia since 1994, and has had over 25 years experience in selling the product. In addition to collecting microphones, Phill also takes them out and uses them on gigs.
