Live relay in the Ukraine – with Sir Paul McCartney and Electro-Voice X-Line

This summer, ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney played for the first time in the Ukraine. To satisfy the enormous demand for tickets, the show was relayed live to giant screens in a number of cities throughout the country. In Donetsk, an Electro-Voice X-Line system gave the event the electrifying atmosphere of a live concert.

The Beatles are a cult—even (or, rather, especially) in the Ukraine. That’s why there was enormous excitement nationwide this summer when Sir Paul McCartney gave his first concert ever in the Ukraine. To ensure as many people as possible were able to enjoy the performance, the show was relayed live to giant screens in a number of Ukrainian cities, including Donetsk. To ensure the crowd watching the broadcast was treated to the authentic sound of a live show, rental firm Donbass Showcon deployed an Electro-Voice X-Line system.

The fans gathered in their thousands beneath the giant screens, and were treated to a sensational listening experience. “The design of the X-Line is user-friendly,” says Vladimir Prokofyev, Donbass Showcon’s Live Engineer: “And as for the sound quality, what more can be said?” Prokofyev also found the Electro-Voice LAPS software extremely helpful, telling us: “It made it possible for us to find the optimal configuration and tuning of the system in next to no time.”
