Soundcheck review on RE3

Soundcheck reviewed the Electro-Voice RE3, the UHF wireless microphone system Electro-Voice introduced at Winter NAMM 2019 as the successor to the RE2. The review assessed the system across audio quality, build construction, and ease of use, and concluded that the RE3 sets a new standard as a worthy successor to the RE2 series.

According to the review, the wireless sound came across as warm, direct, and balanced, with no interfering noise or radio hum. The reviewer credited Electro-Voice with focusing closely on the microphone's field of application — both the microphone and the receiver carry a robust finish suited to the demands of everyday touring.

The RE3 handheld pairs a rugged aluminum finish with a slim profile that sits well in the hand. The review found the frequency scan on the RE3 receiver to be straightforward and reliable, allowing several wireless systems to run alongside one another. Long battery life was singled out as a major plus for live work.

The RE3 series spans 10 prepackaged sets for live performance and presentation. Five handheld sets are offered with a choice of capsules — the dynamic ND76, ND86, and ND96, and the RE420 and RE520 condenser heads. Five bodypack sets cover instrument and lavalier or headworn applications, including the OL3 and CL3 lavalier microphones, the HW3 headset, the GC3 instrument cable, and a bodypack-only option. Sets are available across the 5L, 5H, 6M, and 8M frequency bands.
