Electro-Voice has launched PREVIEW, a platform-independent software tool that helps sound system designers configure Electro-Voice line arrays for optimized coverage. Running on Windows and macOS as a free download, PREVIEW generates visualizations of coverage, SPL, and frequency response, along with mechanical load calculations, in a full-color 3D interface.
The application supports specifiers, designers, and audio engineers in determining loudspeaker configurations, positioning angles, amplifier requirements, and delay settings. It recommends mechanically valid combinations of loudspeakers and rigging hardware for both flown and ground-stacked arrays.
A Quick Map function visualizes coverage density across the audience area, with flexible auto dB range mapping. Virtual microphone positioning predicts frequency response anywhere in the venue, and a spectrogram display presents a vertical frequency response plot for each loudspeaker at the point where its main geometric axis reaches the audience — shown side by side so the designer can assess how evenly the venue is covered in both level and frequency. PREVIEW also simplifies the creation of subwoofer arrays.
A detailed report generation function and a project file database give users acoustical and mechanical information, and allow them to import existing designs and store new project files, drawings, and templates.
Supported models
The first full public-release version of PREVIEW supports most Electro-Voice touring and install line-array models, including the X1(i), X2(i), XLC, XLD, and XLE, as well as complementary subwoofers.
